When my marriage came to an end and I didn't want to move, it was Jon, one of my best friends, who insisted I refresh the space to wipe it clean of the past. Why wake up every day to a house full of memories? Sometimes you need a good...
friend to point out the obvious!
So together we rearranged furniture to change the look and energy of the rooms and painted and painted and painted….. This was not an expensive re-do (less than $100.00 on paint) and it was sooooo much fun.
We clashed on some color choices but because Jon is uber creative and talented, I ended up caving to his confident “Just trust me.” And thankfully so -who would have thought barnyard red in a tiny kitchen would work so perfectly – a somewhat dull space suddenly became lively and happy and so welcoming in the morning.
After refreshing the bedroom and main living spaces of the house it did indeed feel different – much more alive and much more a reflection of me. There was little to remind me of my life pre divorce and I felt as though I had moved into a brand new space without the hassle of moving.
This proved to be incredibly wise advice from Jon for the following five reasons...
1) Psychologically uplifting
2) Fresh paint, fresh start
3) Improved energy flow from moving the furniture – the rooms actually felt lighter energetically speaking.
4) Consciously acting to move forward is very empowering
5) Physically removing the past and creating a new bright and happy foundation prevents pining for the past.
I promise you will feel REFRESHED and MOTIVATED to move forward. So do yourself a favor, enlist a good friend and start creating a new, healthy haven pronto!
